Podcast: Kent schools to avoid concrete crisis

Kent County Council say there are no further schools in Kent affected by the safety concerns over collapsing concrete. 

Five schools in the county were impacted by the same issue earlier this year – more than 100 schools in England are facing disruption to the new academic year as it’s dealt with. 

Also in today’s podcast, there are no trains in Kent today as members of the ASLEF union are out on strike.

It’s part of a dispute over pay and conditions that has seen walkouts staged since last June. 

The industrial actions comes as  consultation on plans to close ticket offices at most of Kent’s railway stations comes to a close today. 

The proposal has drawn heavy criticism from disability groups. 

Run down industrial units by the M20 in Ashford are set to be demolished to make way for a new development. 

The site has recently been taken over by trespassers and filled with rubbish. 

And in sport, Gillingham head north tomorrow to take on Grimsby Town in their latest League Two fixture.
